WELCOME to technology at Affton High School. Thanks to the present and prior Boards of Educations for their financial support of technology. Three years ago there was only one department, Business Department, which had SMARTboards. Today, every core curriculum department (communication arts, social studies, math, and science) have at least one SMART Classroom and most have two or three. So, what's a SMART Classroom and what's so great about them?
A SMART Classroom can be configured in a number of different ways. AHS SMART classrooms have a SMART Board and projector, some classrooms have a document cameras, and all departments have at least one set of Senteos. A SMART Classroom provides teachers with tools that engage students and encourage interactivity and collaboration.
First, the SMART Board, it is an interactive whiteboard that connects to the teacher's computer and the digital projector. Students and teachers can write notes, design or use saved charts and images, search the Internet, play videos, provide interactive presentations and save teacher and student work for later use or for those students who are absent.
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard has the flexibility to engage all learning styles.
- Visual learners can easily see colorful, movable images and diagrams that the interactive whiteboard displays, even from the back of the classroom.
- Kinesthetic learners can interact and explore by moving letters, numbers, words and pictures with the touch of a finger.
- Auditory learners can be immersed in a complete multimedia experience using optional USB speakers or SMART Audio

Second, the document camera is a new SMART Classroom component for AHS teachers. With the SMART Document Camera, you can display real-time images of any object onto an interactive whiteboard or projection screen for the entire class to see. The document camera is seamlessly integrated with SMART Notebook software, so you can instantly turn objects into interactive content for lessons. You can also use control buttons that are built into SMART Notebook software to capture images and add them directly to a SMART Notebook page.
The third SMART component of an AHS SMART classroom is the Senteo SMART Response system. Senteo is a system of 24 or 32 wireless remotes, a receiver and assessment software that is integrated with SMART Notebook. The SMART Response is one of the electronic tools that is provided for AHS teachers' that provides instant feedback as to how well each student understands lesson material. Teachers can conduct planned or spontaneous assessments and then report, track and evaluate the results. The results are automatically saved in the software's built-in gradebook.
