New information about a FREE Educational Asthma camp for kids 13 years and under:   http://shp.missouri.edu/rt/asthma_camp.php--see link below

"Camp Catch-Ya-Breath is a weekend camp that helps children learn about their asthma and how to control it. Respiratory therapists, physicians, and nurses teach children about asthma, avoiding triggers, how to take medications properly and how to follow an asthma action plan."

We now have our new walking path thanks to the RAMS and the NFL.  Please feel free to utilize this when you are here to watch your child's games, or anytime.  Around the path is approximately 1/4 mile and takes about 5 minutes.  It's a pleasant walk so please enjoy!!

The mammography van will be here on Wednesday, April 25.  Please schedule your appointment soon and utilize this service provided by BJC and Missouri Baptist Hospital.

Ask your kids about "taste testing" at school or if they participate in Trivia Tuesdays or Fitness Fridays.  I know sometimes children do not always talk about what goes on at school, but these are some of the things I am doing to get them excited about nutrition, healthy eating and exercise as part of Fuel Up to Play 60.  Oh, and if you have a 7th grader, ask them about the Flashmob!!!

WE ARE A SUPER SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was sooooo proud of our kids when the Rams and the NFL came on November 15.  What a wonderful, exciting, energizing day we had at Rogers!  We not only won enough money for a walking path (not just for our students but you as well), but we also received many gifts from the Rams and the NFL including weights, jump ropes, cones, footballs and a $500 gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods.  ROGERS IS AN NFL SUPER SCHOOL!!!!!!!!

Health and Wellness Committee- (STILL LOOKING, ANY TAKERS?)   We are looking for a parent to serve on our Health and Wellness Committee.  Our first meeting was December 8th.  This committee was formed in an effort to increase health and wellness at Rogers.  We discussed food choices, taste testing for the upcoming week, and future plans for increasing nutrition awareness.  Please consider serving on this committee for the remainder of the school year as we are looking for parent input. Meetings will be held as deemed necessary by those in attendance.

Fuel Up to Play 60-  As many of you are aware, last year I received a grant to purchase several Wiis for our after school Wii program.  That program continues on Thursdays from 1:55-2:50 PM.  Please be sure to have ride arrangements made for your child.  Also, I encourage you to check out the FUTP 60 website (link below).  The dairy council and NFL are doing some really neat things for kids.  Encourage your son or daughter to get involved with FUTP 60.  Getting involved with this program DOES NOT mean they stay after school.  It is a website designed to give information regarding healthy eating, good nutrition and exercise.

Physicals -must be current for 7th graders and any student wishing to stay for after school activities.  Current implies that I have a 4th grade physical on file for any 6th grader who wants to stay after school.  7th and 8th graders must have a physical from 7th grade.  If your child plays any sports they must have a new physical each year.

Asthma Action Plans -(if necessary) If your child takes an inhaler at school, a current AAP must be completed by his/her physician.

Medication information:  Over the counter medication may be brought to school by the student and given to the school nurse.  It may be administered by the school nurse as long as written parent permission is obtained and kept in the health room.

All prescription medication (including daily medication) MUST be brought to school by a parent and given to school personnel.  Again, written permission is obtained and kept in the health room.

Please know that I am here to assist you and your physician with your child's health needs.  If your child is seriously ill or injured, or if he/she has a planned surgery please notify me as soon as possible so I can work with the counselors to arrange help.
