Affton ECC offers a Reverse Mainstream curriculum. A Reverse Mainstream classroom offers students regardless of disability, race, creed, language or gender, the opportunities to live, work, and play in integrated environments and activities. This type of classroom setting teaches children to make choices and regulate their own behavior within the social environment.
Our school recognizes four principles of a child’s development:
- Children want to make sense of their world.
- Children actively construct knowledge and values by interacting with their world.
- Developmental domains (groups of similar steps in development) are interrelated, each influencing the others.
- In their efforts to understand the world, young children’s thinking will contain predictable errors.
Each child enrolled in our program contributes unique talents and abilities to a classroom creating a rich and quality education. Friendships are established with fellow classmates that they will have in elementary school making their transition to grade school easier. Students here also benefit from the many integrated services that our on site school specialists provide.
