Parents as Teachers (PAT)

Children begin learning at birth and learn more during the first five years of life than at any other time. Parents as Teachers is an early learning program which supports parents in their role as the first and most influential teachers of their children. All services are provided free of charge. To enroll, click here or call 314-633-0019.

Personal Visits
A certified Parent Educator will share information on child development, bring an age-appropriate activity for you and your child to do together and observe your child’s play and development with you during the personal visit. Generally, three to five personal visits are provided each year.  Click here to read more about each Parent Educator.

Group Meetings
We offer meetings just for parents and also family activity sessions. We ask that you attend a minimum of one session each year. You are welcome to attend as many as you like. Please note that some groups require a reservation as space can be limited and/or adequate supplies can be available.  Click here for our PAT Group Events page for the schedule of events being offered. If school has been cancelled or dismissed early due to inclement weather, our activities will also be cancelled.

Developmental Screenings
Screenings are a brief assessment of skills and is an initial phase of the process of educational assessment and intervention. The purpose of screenings is to improve services for children and insure that they get the maximum benefits from their educational experiences.  Please call 633-0019 to make an appointment if your child.

Story Line
Affton Parents as Teachers has started a “Story Line.” Dial our number 633-0019, listen to the prompts (8 is the story line). Let your child listen to a different story each month read by a parent educator or other Affton Staff. There will be a few seconds between the introduction and the start of the story, just remind your child that the story is coming!
